Daniel Scaturro :

Born in Aubagne in 1954, Daniel Scaturro has always lived in Christmas creche maker's company.

Since 1989, he has created no less than a museum, a wonderful exhibition over a 150 m2, housing his work. You can discover, amongst other objects, 5 large cribs on display  :

Two of them are over 6 metres and house santons dating from the beginning of the century. These antique wonders were made by the famous clay worker : Thérèse NEVEU, first Aubagne Santon maker. A lady, whose work is known throughout the world.

The crèche that won first prize at the "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" (best French Craftsman) competition, totally unique. This piece instantly catches the eye. Apart from the complexity of the work, its particularity is that the santons are entirely made from clay, they are first made naked, the clothes are then made "in clay" and the santons are dressed, meaning that the body and clothes are seperate.

There are many other beautiful objects to marvel at, the visit is really worth it…

Involved from an early age in the Provencal traditional art, in October 1975 he decided to develop his passion and set up a company, which forebears his name in the town of his ancestors: Aubagne: " The Santon Capital ".

For more than 20 years his fabrication has continually developed and his collection has acquired more and more original and attractive figurines. It now covers a whole range, from The Traditional Provençal Santon, to Film Star santons and also offers Personalised Santons.

A perfectionist, Daniel Scaturro maintains a high quality and puts his know-how into each of his creations.

This love of work well done, is not only appreciated by his clients, true collectors, but also by official prizes such as the 1st prize at the International KRIPPANNA Competition for artists in Belgium, the Department prize, the Art craft's Medal, The Marseilles town's medal, the Aubagne town's Medal and also being offered the "Maître Santonnier" (Master Santon Maker) title in 1991. It was in 1997, after 5 months hard work that he received the " Meilleur Ouvrier de France " (Best French Craftsman) title.

For the mark delivery of the "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" (best French Craftsman), Daniel Scaturro was welcommed from is talent,by the French Republic President at "Palais de l'Elysée".
